    • Women in Mining, Nigeria (WIMIN) is a non-governmental organization with interests in women’s advancement in Nigeria’s minerals, exploration and mining sector. As the umbrella organization driving women empowerment and economic development processes, WIMIN is preoccupied with addressing gender equality, governance and the environment as cross-cutting issues in the mining sector.  WIMIN’s worldwide acceptance is anchored on equity and protection of the most vulnerable, particularly women and children from the grievous consequences of artisanal mining.  

      With membership strength of about 1500 members, WIMIN is posed to engage in a combination of agricultural and mining activities, ranging from collection, trading and financing of gemstone production to working on metallic ores and tin sheds, as well as, multi-disciplinary professional service delivery in geology, engineering, law, accounting, insurance etc.   


      WIMIN’s vision is to create economic opportunities and empower women to engage in safe and sustainable mining practice in Nigeria.


      WIMIN is a first-class women’s network aimed at enhancing sustainable investment and opportunities, in mining through knowledge development, partnership and mainstreaming of gender for a vibrant landscape in Nigeria and beyond.

      Overall Goal: Improved equal opportunities by mainstreaming issues affecting women and children in Nigeria’s mining sector.  (These issues are categorized into three broad goals namely: Well-being (Health and Education), Economic and Social Empowerment.

      Expectedly, the overall goal will be attained through the achievement of the following specific objectives:

      • Improved job creation in the mining sector
      • Improved policies and laws on mining
      • Strengthened organizational capacity in the mining sector
      • Shifts in social norms / practices 
      • Increased funding for the mining sector
      • Strengthened alliances in mining communities

      WIMIN’s intervention seeks to effect transformational change in the mining sector based on the four core values of I-SEE:

      • Integrity:  Doing the right thing when no one is watching
      • Sustainability:  Reducing wastages to maintain a balance
      • Empowerment: Developing Capacity, fostering partnerships
